What is the Writer’s biggest issue?

I’ve been asked this question a lot, so I felt now would be a great time to discuss it in a blog post.

“What is the Writer’s biggest issue?”

Good question. I’d have to say many things, but not limited to:

1) Fear: It’s crippling effect not only destroys any hope of getting words down on the page, but stems creativity, and sends it to “no-mans-land”, the place where negative emotions exist. Defeat fear with this proven technique. ACTION!

2) Doubt:Another nasty habit and a cousin of Fear. Doubt will kill your creativity and play tug of war with your emotions, leaving you a nervous wreck. Solution? Don’t listen to this dirty little fellow, just write, and forget about the quality of words you put down. You can always fix them later.

3)Procrastination: A good friend of Doubt, Procrastination keeps you from fulfilling your writing destiny. It’ll tell you that “you can always start writing tomorrow”, the problem is you don’t. It’s a vicious circle that destroys creativity and leads to doubt and fear. The solution? Easy. Talk to other writers and learn what they do to combat this nasty foe. If you don’t have any writer friends, make some, or read some good self-help books on the subject. There are tons of them out there.

So there you are folks. Writing’s greatest foes, but now you’re better armed to combat these nefarious bastards, and send them packing, so you can do what you do best. Write!
